BRISTOL CITY KICKS MAN U OUT OF LEAGUE CUP

Korey Smith scored an injury-time winner as Championship side Bristol City stunned holders Manchester United to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Championship side Bristol City have eliminated defending champions of the Carabao Cup Man United after a 2-1 victory on Wednesday, December 20, at Ashton Gate.

 Korey Smith's 90th minute winner secured a semi final spot for Bristol who recorded a remarkable victory in front of 26,088 fans at the stadium. 

Getting his first start of the season, captain of the night Zlatan Ibrahimovic got Man United first chance of the game in the 11th minute as his effort hit the cross bar after he was teed up by Anthony Martial.

Jose Mourinho's men again hit the wood work ten minutes later as Rashford's shot from outside the box hit the post. 

However, it was Bristol who took the lead in the 51st minute through Joe Bryan. The 24-year-old rifled his first-timed strike into the far corner after being set up by Pack. 

But seven minutes later, Man United were back on level terms thanks to Ibrahimovic. Paul Pogba who was making his return to the team after a three-game ban, won a free-kick on the edge of the box. 

Zlatan Ibrahimovic stepped up and his powerful drive flashed past Steele into the net. It was the big Swedes first goal of the season.

 Jose Mourinho introduced Lukaku into the game with 30 minutes left on the clock and the Belgian was presented a glorious chance to put Man United in the lead some minutes later. 

His header which was destined for the bottom corner forced a fine save from Steele in goal for Bristol. With five minutes left on the clock, Steele again made another terrific save low to his left to deny Lukaku's close range effort. 

Bristol City shocked their opponent in the 90th minute when Smith turned sharply inside the area and fired an effort into the far corner.

 The game ended 2-1 in favour of the host as Man United bowed out of the competition they won last season. In the other game of the night, Alvaro Morata scored a 93rd minute winner as Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to book their place in the semi final.
