Nigeria’s Super Eagles lose three points in World Cup qualifier

The hammer of the world football governing body (FIFA) has fell on the Super Eagles of Nigeria for them to have used an ineligible player in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria used former Kano Pillars' player Shehu Abdullahi against Algeria in their 2018 World Cup qualifier on November 10 which the Super Eagles won 3-1 in Uyo.

According to FIFA, the Super Eagles were not supposed to use the player against Algeria as he had received two yellow cards in previous games.

The Super Eagles have now forfeited the three points they got from the match as FIFA have given the 3 points to Algeria.

FIFA have also fined the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) 6,000 Swiss Francs which is approximately to N2,175,660.00.

The good news for all Nigerian football lovers is that Nigeria will still participate at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as the latest deduction did not affect their chance.

But the Super Eagles cannot be said again to have finished their 2018 World Cup qualifiers unbeaten with this latest punishment given to them by FIFA.
