Why I disagree with Nnamdi Kanu – Ohanaeze president

The President of the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, said he disagreed with the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, because he (Kanu) refused to support the popular call for restructuring.

Nwodo made the clarification on Monday in a convocation lecture he delivered at the Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State. The lecture titled, ‘National reconciliation and role of universities,’ was chaired by the wife of the first President of Nigeria, Prof. Uche Azikiwe.
He also attributed his opposition to the proscribed IPOB leader to the use of hate speech and the opposition to the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.
Nwodo said, “I support restructuring, it will afford each region the opportunity to harness their potential, explore their resources, and enhance true federalism.
“In the 1st Republic when the country was restructured into regions, our founding fathers, like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, were able to build the first television station, Liberty Stadium, multi-million Cocoa House in the Western Region of Nigeria, while Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe established the University of Nigeria, Nsukka;  Emene  Steel Industry, and Golden Brewery Factory in the Eastern Region.”
He said that he would never support Kanu’s approach because of his resort to hate speech and abuse of personalities.
“I will never support hate speech, if that is the only part to unpopularity I choose it; courage is an indispensable hallmark of leadership,” he stressed.
The Ohanaeze President stressed the need for diplomacy and restructuring as the solution to the agitations  in the country.
“I champion restructuring; it will afford the components units of the country the opportunity to enhance their economic potential and encourage true federalism,” he stressed.
