The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sacked two members of the House of Representatives from Enugu and ordered them to refund all emoluments they have earned back to National Assembly’s purse.
The affected lawmakers, according to Daily Trust are: Hon. Stella Ngwu from Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency and Hon. Dennis Nnmachi Agbo from Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency.
In its judgment on Tuesday, October 18, the court declared that Dr. Gabriel A Okafor is the rightful winner of Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency seat election, while Hon. Chijioke H. Ugwu won the Egbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Enugu State in 2015.
The judge ordered INEC to immediately issue certificates of return to them both of them.
Meanwhile, some federal lawmakers in the House of Representatives have paid themselves hundreds of millions of Naira as accommodation allowances, according to accusations made by suspended Kano lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin.
Jibrin alleges that Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the lower house of legislature and his deputy Lasun collected N500m ‘from multiple sources’ as their accommodation allowances.
The lawmaker made these allegations on his Twitter handle on Monday, October 17 even as he revealed that the allowances caused friction among members of the House.
