A call for mental revolution by Onah Chukwudi

Dear Nigerians,

I am writing this letter to inform and educate you on the things happening in our dear country Nigeria.

Election time is here again; in less than eleven days we all will be going to our different polling booths to decide our fate.  As you do so remember that the future of this great country lies in our hands. Do not be deceived. No matter what they offer you, do not sell your vote because your vote is your visa to better life; your vote is your visa to good and quality education; your vote is your visa to good health care centers; your vote is your visa to good roads and good pipe borne water etc.

A lot of Nigerians say that their votes don’t count. If you think that your votes don’t count, why do they pay you to vote for them? If your votes don’t count why are they touring around the states seeking and begging for votes? If your votes don’t count why is it that during election period all the politicians would turn to our friends? And after elections they will just change their phone numbers and patrol around in convoy.

I’m really sorry to say this, but the truth is that our leaders don’t care about us. Can you imagine that someone will spend three to four years in nursery school, six years in primary school, may be 4-5 years biting jamb, 4-5 years in tertiary institution and one year serving the country, Nigeria and after that you are on your own. The government won’t even give a damn about you anymore. Can you imagine that after school nowadays my people have to start all over again because there is no provision for our young graduates and youths? it’s so painful!

Do you know that none of these politicians’ sons and daughters is here in this country? Do you know that our politicians don’t treat malaria over here? Do you know that our politicians use us ‘’the lazy youths to remain in power? Do you also know that they use us to perpetrate violence during elections period? Why is it that our government can’t create industries to reduce the increasing number of unemployed youths and graduates? Why is it that Nigeria is now a dumping ground for foreign goods? Go to main market in Onitsha 80% of the products there, were made in China. Even our own home made goods are inscribed made in China. Why is it that we are not proud of our home land? Why can’t our government invest in our youths?  Why can’t they encourage our talented youths? Don’t you think that our leaders signed a deal with those foreign countries, so that we can only remain consumers, instead of producers?

Very soon all our children will be born in China. Why? Because the bed the child was delivered on was made in China, the clothes the child is putting on was made in China. Even the milk they will give the child is made in China.
Please, I want to urge us all to get this country working again, together we can. Thank you!
