The corpse of a 400 level student of the College of Education, Osun State University, Ipetu Ijesa Campus, Miss. Rofiat Adebisi, who went missing since last week has been found in Iragbiji in Osun State.

Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that the corpse was found in Iragbiji last Friday and the police had started working to unravel the cause of the death and those behind it.

Sources said the deceased left her campus in Ipetu Ijesa to attend a religious programme at Ikoyi town off Ife-Ibadan Expressway in Osun State last Thursday but nothing was heard from her since.

Her family and colleagues were said to have been worried and the discovery of her corpse confirmed their worst fear.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, saying the police were working to unravel the cause of the death.

Asked to asertain if Adebisi was shot dead or strangulated, the CP said the deceased was not shot but he could not say if she was strangulated or not, adding that the police would require experts to know the cause of the death.

He said no arrest had been made but stated that the police would get to the root of the matter and prosecute whoever was found to be culpable.

The Vice Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Prof. Labode Popoola, confirmed the incident To our correspondent on the telephone. He described it as a shock.

The VC said, ” I was informed of the case yesterday but nobody know the cause of the death now. The police are investigating it. Nobody knows the cause but it happened.”

The Deputy Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students in the South West, Mr. Sheed Afolabi, while speaking with our correspondent on the incident urged the police to arrest those behind the killing and bring them to justice.

Afolabi said, “This is another sad incident. I heard of the incident and I think there is the need to beef up security in the state to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.

“The police should unravel those behind the killing and bring them to justice. Two final year students of UNIOSUN have been missing since early September and their whereabouts remain unknown till today. Their parents are in sorrow and this is why I believe security agencies should help us by working harder than before to ensure that the state is safer than it is.”

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the two final year students of the same university who got missing since September 2016, Mrs. Marian Ogunlana, has said she is worried that her son and his friend have not been found almost four months ago.

Ogunlana, who is the mother of Samuel Eke, said she had been running everywhere to inquire from prophets and had been attending various church vigils to know the whereabouts of her son and his friend, Robert Akinduro, who went missing together.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone, Ogunlana, said she was told at a church recently that her son and his friend were still alive.

She said, “It is over three months now that they went away and I have not heard anything from them. Nobody has contacted me to tell me where they are. I have been going from place to place and attending vigils.

“I attended a vigil recently and I was told that they are still alive. But how long will I stay without knowing where my only son is. I am worried, I am just alive by the grace of God, in fact, I don’t know what to do again.

” There is no traces of them anywhere since that night they went missing. The suspect has been released by the court. It is only God that knows what happened to the two of them that night and if that boy ( suspect) knew anything about it,”

Ogunlana, who is a single mother said she laboured to raise Samuel and his disappearance had made her life a miserable one.

The distraught mother said there must be something strange happening at Oke Baale area, Osogbo where the two students got missing, saying it was still a mystery that her son and his friend could disappear without any traces of them for over three months.

Members of the family of Akinduro are also worried that Robert, who is a final year student of Computer Science Department just like Samuel is missing since September 5.

Henry, who is also a student of the same Institution, spoke to our correspondent on behalf of the family.

He said nobody had contacted the family adding that the two families had been left to search for their missing students.

” We just believe God will take over the situation and we will see my brother and is friend one day. Nobody is contacting the family now,” he added.

Pope Says This May Be Our Last Christmas

Pope Francis told crowds in St. Peter’s Square that this Christmas might be the last one for humanity.
In a grim speech, the Pope said that the current chaotic state of the world marks the beginning of the “end times”, and that this time next year the world is likely to be unrecognisable.
Francis, who previously announced the
beginning of World War 3 , had labelled this year’s Christmas as a “charade” during a Mass at the Casa Santa Maria earlier in the month.
“We are close to Christmas. There will be lights, there will be parties, bright trees, even Nativity scenes – all decked out – while the world continues to wage war ,” he said earlier in December.
The Pontiff, who turned 79 on Thursday, elaborated on his views this weekend, telling a crowd, “While the world starves, burns, and descends further into chaos, we should realise that this year’s Christmas celebrations for those who choose to celebrate it may be their last “.
“Unless the path to peace is recognised, we must weep for those innocent victims who grow by the day, and ask God for forgiveness. As Jesus and God weeps, I do too “.

WARNING! 6 tests to help you spot fake rice

Reports indicate that China produces fake rice which is mixed with plastic for exportation to African countries including Nigeria.

China has a history of making fake food items and the fake rice phenomenon has been there for a while.
A reputable English-language newspaper in Korea, The Korea Times, reported that “China famous for having all, making all, has now been reported to have made rice out of plastic and has distributed it. ”
The ‘plastic rice’ is reportedly made by forming potatoes and sweet potatoes into regular rice grains shape, then adding industrial synthetic resins. It remains hard after cooking and can cause serious health issues.
Experts have raised the alarm of possible flooding of the Nigerian market with the ‘plastic rice’.

As Christmas draws close, a lot of people will be getting bags of rice from their employers, friends and well-wishers.
You can determine if your rice is fake by carrying out any of the simple tests below.
1. The mortar and pestle test
When molding a few grains of rice with a mortar and pestle, if the powder gives a quite white colour, you are good to go but it has a yellow discoloration, your rice must be fake.

2. The fire test
You know what plastic smells like right. So, get a lighter and burn a handful of rice. If it catches fire and smells like burnt plastic, you have fake rice.

3. The water test
Get a glass of cold water. Pour a tablespoon of raw rice in the glass and stir. If the rice goes to the bottom, it is all good. If it floats at the top, be careful because it means it contains ‘plastic rice’. Do not eat.

4. The mold test
Boil the rice. Leave it in a warm place for like 2-3 days. If mold does not appear in a few days, your rice is fake and should not be consumed. It will not get mold because plastic is not affected by the weather or temperature.

5. The boiling test
Observe the rice while boiling. If it starts forming a thick layer at the top of the pot, it is ‘plastic rice’.

6. The hot oil test
Just take some of the rice drop into some real hot oil. If it is plastic, it will melt or stick together or stick at the bottom of the pan.

Share these tips with your friends and family so they do not end up eating ‘plastic rice’. These tests are very simple. Do not eat plastic rice, be careful.

Tekno disqualified from Headies awards

Ahead of the highly anticipated Headies awards, Nigerian music sensation, Tekno, has been disqualified from the highly coveted “Next Rated” category.
The award, billed to take place on December 22, was embraced with criticisms from top notch musicians in the industry.
Tekno had lambasted the organisers for including him in the “Next Rated” category.
In an Instagram post made about a month ago, he said “Next rated after how many years! Let’s be honest pls”.
Revered video producer, Clarence Peters, had also criticised the awards.
In an Instagram post made about a month, Clarence Peters said “In a year that these men gave us some of the most amazing visual interpretations mainly Darey’s “Pray for me” by
@mexemania & Kiss Daniel’s “Jombo” by@ajefilmswork works, respectfully, it breaks my heart that The Headies don’t deem it fit to recognize their outstanding work.
“To my brothers: from Dir Q, to @adasacookey to Frizzle&Bizzle, from Gambit to LA, from Matt Max to Avalon to TOSIN IGHO, SESAN to MOE to MEJI etc …. We know what we put in.
“Awards don’t define us, WE DEFINE POPULAR CULTURE not just in Nigeria, but across the continent, so I salute you all”.
Prolific rapper, Yung6ix, described the award as being ‘Tribalistic”.
Organizers of the awards, however, sent out a message to all aggrieved parties explaining why some artistes were not included this year, blaming their exclusion on non-submission of materials.
According to a document obtained by THE NETNG, the Headies disqualified Tekno for not meeting requisite conditions for the award.
“Tekno has unfortunately not made himself available for any of the mandatory activities, hence the committee’s decision to effectively withdraw his nomination for this year”.
The document also added that the decision was irrevocable and final.
The headies have also released names of upcoming artistes who made it to the highly sought after “Rookie of the year” category with Mayorkun, Dice Ailes, Terry Apala, Mz. Kiss and Dremo competing for the award.

LASG begins sale of LAKE Rice

Lagos – The Lagos State Government on Thursday commenced the sale of Lake Rice as part of the MoU between the state and Kebbi Government at the rate of N12,000 per 50-kilogramme bag. At some of the centres, trucks were dispatching the rice, while residents were seen making payments through Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal.

Mrs Felicia Ajiroba, a teacher, commended the government for the initiative, adding that the rice would ensure that residents have food during the festive period. She said “when I learnt that the price of rice was N20,000 in the market, I was worried because I felt I would not cook rice for my family during Christmas. “It was too expensive and I cannot afford it with my meagre salary. “The subsidised price of Lake Rice is a comfort and blessing to many residents of Lagos. It shows that government is concerned about our plight.” Mrs Wosilat Elegbede, a trader at Ikorodu market in Lagos, said that the rice would alleviate poverty and hunger in the state. “The case of people stealing pot of rice on the fire would not arise in the state as the price is subsidised and people can choose the size of rice they can afford,.” Mr Ajibola Oluwa, the Sales Coordinator, LASTMA Works Yard, Freeman, Lagos Island, said that the presence of coordinators at various sale points was to ensure orderliness among buyers. According to him, their presence is also to monitor sale of the rice and ensure that it circulates maximally in the state through sale of one bag per person. He said the presentation of Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) card was a criteria for purchasing the rice. Lake Rice was an initiative of the Lagos and Kebbi state governments designed to ensure food security and showcase the ability of Nigeria to become a rice producing nation. The rice sells for N12,000 for 50kg bag, 25kg is N6,000 while 10kg goes for N2,500. The sale points are Odogunyan Farm Service Centre, Ikorodu, Temu Farm Service Centre, Epe, Naforiji Town Hall, Eredo, Magbon Alade School, Ibeju and SUBEB premises, Maryland. Others are; Coconut House, Mowo, Farm Service Centre, Marina, Ikeja Grammar School, Oshodi, LSADA Farm Service Centre, Oko-Baba, Agege and LAISA in Ojo. It would also be sold at Agric Area Office, Ajah, LASTMA Works Yard, Adeniji/Freeman, Lagos Island, Alakoto Senior High School, Ajegunle, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere and Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre (Rowe Park), Yaba

Ethnic clash in Taraba, 42 killed

Emerging reports from Taraba state suggests that about 42 people have lost their lives, following an ongoing violent clash between Tivs and Fulanis in Sabon Gidan village of Dan Anacha town.

According to Premium Times, many others have been reported missing in the ongoing violent clash within the state.
Sources from the area said the crisis started on Saturday when two corpses of Fulanis were found killed in a bush. This triggered their kingpins carrying out reprisal attacks on Tivs.
"I counted about 20 corpses who were believed to have been killed early hours of today, Sunday,” a resident f the area told newsmen.
“Many people including women and children are nowhere to be found,” the source added.

When contacted, the Taraba police spokesperson, David Misal, confirmed the clash, saying more operatives have been drafted to the area to restore peace and order.
He said the police could not yet ascertain the casualty figure.
The Nation reports that the hacking to death of the farmers by suspected Fulani militia in Gassol Local Government Area has spilled to many Tiv villages, in spite of police and military presence in the area.
The meeting by Commissioner of Police Yunas Babas, State President of Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) Goodman Dahida, President of Fulani’s Miyati-Alla, the Lamdo Gassol and security agencies to broker peace was fruitless
Police, soldiers, Dahida and the Senior Special Assistant to Taraba State Governor, Hon. Jerry Tyolanga, confirmed the rise in death toll.
Tiv homes were set ablaze, with smokes still billowing when The Nation visited the troubled area yesterday afternoon.
Six persons were gunned down in Sabon Gari; 16 were slain in other villages. Among them were three women, eye-witnesses said.
Four trucks conveyed bodies, which were killed. The bodies recovered from the “bush villages”. They were being taken to neighbouring Benue state.
There was mass exodus of Tiv from Dan-Anacha –fleeing Taraba to Benue State where a bulk of their ethnic group resides.
The displaced persons looked frustrated, most of them carrying heavy loads, children and domesticated animals but without transportation fares. Some were loudly crying and wailing over the loss of their loved ones.
The renewed attack and killings of Tiv farmers began on Saturday in Dan-Anacha, whose name was recently changed to Kwararafa, as the state was busy at a “Peace Concert” in a stadium in Jalingo –the state capital – organised by Governor Darius Ishaku.
Police spokesman David Mishal, who confirmed the killings, was still being expected to brief the press on the details yesterday.
He described the incident as “undercover attacks where you invade someone’s home and attack him when there is no war going on”.
Governor Darius Ishaku is seen by the Tiv in Taraba as a peace maker. They held a meeting in Jalingo yesterday on the killings, which are raising national concerns.
The Tiv community alleged that yesterday’s killings followed a meeting between the Lamdo Gassol and the Fulani militias. “The meeting started by midnight and lasted till 4:00am when the militias began to invade Tiv homes,” one of the displaced farmers, who is injured, said.

MMM founder Sergey Mavrodi tells Nigerian bloggers, journalists to leave MMM alone

Sergey Mavrodi, the founder of Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM) has written an open letter to Nigerian journalists whom he claimed are causing unnecessary tension in the country.
According to him, MMM will be back by January as earlier stated, hence the rumour about the scheme collapse should stop.

Mavrodi described articles from Nigerians journalists and bloggers as "provocative and worthless articMavrodi
"Dear journalists, “analysts” and all kinds of “experts”!Please stop using MMM to gain cheap popularity. Leave us alone and let us work without interference. I’m just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don’t you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose?
"In fact, absolutely all your provocative and worthless articles and “analyses” (I said “worthless” because you do not have any real information about what happens in the System, and might have never had; you simply invent everything, fabricate it) are merely negative: “MMM has collapsed!!!.. MMM will not be working in January!!!..” etc. Are you intentionally presenting all of it in such a manner and whipping up tension by any means possible in order to increase the ratings of your publications and attract attention to them? Don’t you care about people at all?
"So, nothing has collapsed, and MMM will safely resume its work in January, as announced. Suspension of work for holidays is a usual thing, merely working moment, no more than that. It would have remained a normal, just a part of the usual routine, and might have gone almost unnoticed if it were not for your totally cynical and irresponsible attempts to advertise yourself, create a scandal out of nowhere, and make the most of this news topic in any possible way.
"Again, leave MMM alone and let us work. Nothing has collapsed, and MMM will perfectly resume its work in January. We Can Change the World!"
Sergey Mavrodi
This is the second open letter the MMM founder Sergey Mavrodi has reportedly written in a week.
Recall that Mavrodi on Monday, December 12, wrote to the Nigerian government, claiming that the scheme would never fail.
However, a day after, MMM operators froze the accounts of its investors in Nigeria but they promised to be back in January 2017.

Mikel sets for China move

CHELSEA castaway John Obi Mikel could be about to take the plunge into the Far East and follow his team-mate Oscar out the door in January. The Nigerian has failed to make a single appearance this season for the Blues, as new manager Antonio Conte consistently overlooks him in his 3-4-3 formation.

With Oscar set to make a sensational £52 million move to Shanghai SIPG, it’s reported that two Chinese clubs are looking at signing the 29-year-old. Chelsea are yet to offer their veteran a new deal, with his current deal set to expire after this season. Mikel Obi The central midfielder has been at Stamford Bridge since 2006, and has made 374 appearances for the West London side, winning two Premier League titles, four FA Cup’s, two League Cup’s, the Europa League and the Champions League. Last season Mikel established himself as an important player, and cemented his position in the starting XI when Guus Hiddink took charge. But Conte has taken a blind side to his abilities, with Marseille rumoured to be interested, and there are even reports of a shock transfer to Manchester United. The Red Devils almost snapped him up before he made the move to Chelsea, and former boss Jose Mourinho could be about to rescue him from his nightmare. Antonio Conte has revealed he has no plans to let the 2016 Olympic bronze medallist leave in January, but has conceded that a new deal is unlikely. Chelsea sit top of the Premier League, winning their last ten matches as they chase down Arsenal’s record of 13 straight league wins.

WAEC decides to conduct GCE twice in a year

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, says it will soon begin the conduct of its examination for private candidates, popularly called GCE, twice in a year with effect from 2017.
The council Registrar, Iyi Uwadiae, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on the sidelines of the council’s “Registrar’s Staff Appraisal Committee’’ meeting on Wednesday in Accra, Ghana.
Mr. Uwadiae said, “The West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates known as the November/December diet for private candidates will now be conducted in January/February and August/September.’’
According to him, the measure is to ensure that many private candidates, who desire the certificate for various purposes, will have the opportunity of writing the examination and acquire the certificate.
“We have concluded arrangements to commence writing of our WASSCE for private candidates twice a year from 2017.
“This will take place in January /February and August/September every year in all the member countries.
“This development, however, does not affect that of the school candidates, popularly called May/June.
“That one remains once a year for all school candidates,” Mr. Uwadiae said.
He explained that administering the WASSCE for private candidates twice a year was part of the projections of the council in 2017.
According to him, as part of its mandate to render qualitative service to all member nations, the council is looking forward to a more rewarding 2017.
“That is the essence of this meeting, which brings all the Heads of National Offices (HNO) from member countries together.
“This meeting takes place once a year to discuss the appraisals of the international staff in member countries and recommend members of staff that are due for promotion.
“During the meeting too, there is also a follow up action on staff with negative appraisals after which recommendations from the committee are forwarded to the international committee for ratifications.
“All these are parts of what we do in order to make the activities of the council more relevant and beneficial to our people,’’ he said.
Mr. Uwadiae lauded the HNOs for their resilience, doggedness and dedication in the face of peculiar challenges in their respective countries and for ensuring a smooth conduct of the examinations.
Describing them as the council’s foot soldiers, the registrar thanked the HNOs for the support accorded him as the overall head of the regional examination body.
“As foot soldiers of the council, I must say that they have done well and deserve the commendation of the council as we look forward to a better 2017.
“They (HNOs) have been meeting the mandate of conducting and releasing results of the various examinations within the stipulated periods and coordinating activities in their respective national offices,’’ he said.
Mr. Uwadiae said that WAEC was also looking forward to conducting its examination in many other countries with English speaking students, studying with Nigeria curriculum as possible.
“We are open to any country in Africa which desire to have us set examination for students, who are being taught with English and uses Nigeria curriculum.
“As long as these countries have all requisites needed for the conduct of our examination on ground, we will be there to carry out our mandate.
“For instance, we are currently rendering such services to some French speaking countries like Togo, Benin Republic and Cote d’Ivoire.

Masturbation: Sex for one!

Mere mention of the word ‘masturbation’ could be irritating. In some settings, masturbation is considered an evil act.   Apparently, not many would want to talk about it either because of their religious backgrounds, morality or it is simply considered absurd. In this part of the world, masturbation is a taboo to discuss  but nevertheless remains quite a common and almost natural activity among men and women and even children. By definition, masturbation means touching one’s own body, including sex organs, for sexual pleasure. It has raised a lot of controversy in religious circles. Many individuals  wonder if the Bible talks about masturbation. However, while religion does not give  thumbs up or thumbs down to it, a study by the Gossard Big M Survey shows that 92 percent of women regularly take time out to masturbate, a huge jump from the findings of previous studies (74 per cent in 1979 and 62 per cent in 1953). While men and women who masturbate live with guilt, shame  and fear associated with it, many have also described it as  self-abuse. But the other side to it  is that, scientifically, studies have shown that masturbating more can dramatically increase individuals’ health and cut the risk of infections. To Miss Bola Oshodi (not real name), who confessed that she started masturbating at the age of 18, it has helped her in so many ways. “I was not influenced by anyone; it started as a result of my menstrual cramps.  Each time I do that, it helps to relieve my pains”, she stated. “While I was growing up, I tried to avoid keeping boyfriends.  I masturbated just to satisfy my urge for sex.  Now that I am married, I do it sometimes.  But I can tell you it literally replaced my emotion for males then.   Each time I do that, I usually feel like I’m having sex. At the end, I feel good. “I think, there are so many positive effects of masturbating — and it’s fun.  It can help you stay in touch with yourself and your sexuality, and is also an extremely satisfying way to pass the time.  I also do that each time I am stressed.” Bola’s case is one of the many benefits of masturbation, according to medical experts. According to a study published in European Urology, aside masturbation being a great stress reliever, it  has distinct health benefits.

Benefits for men

The study, which linked masturbation and frequent ejaculation, also found that men who ejaculate regularly have reduced risk of prostate cancer.  In the study, which tracked 30,000 men for almost 20 years, scientists found that men in their 20s, who ejaculated at least 21 times a month, were 19 per cent less likely to develop prostate cancer than those who did seven times a month or less. The study – published in European Urology-also found that masturbating a lot when younger decreases health problems in later life.

Masturbation is important to medical practice – Dr. Adebayo

In an interview  with  Sunday  Vanguard, a consultant obstetric gynaecologist, Dr Samuel Adebayo,, who stated that there are many ways to look at the issue of masturbation, said apart from the benefit of sexual pleasure, it   helps people suffering from premature ejaculation to get better. “We have been able to see that people with premature ejaculation tend to get better with masturbwomen" , Adebayo said.

According to him, masturbation also helps in infertility treatment and also in sperm collection for other medical use. The Medical Director, Dayspring Hospital, Lagos  explained that there are two indications for masturbation in medical practice. “One of the major indications is that it is a procedure to collect male sperm in the case of infertility. We believe that collecting a sample through masturbation is far better than through sexual intercourse where, most of the times, that of the female would have gotten contaminated with bacteria in the vagina. But if it is by masturbation, you are sure that you will be able to estimate the quantity of the semen and you can accurately estimate the volume, which is one of the parameters we always use when we are estimating the quality of a man’s sperm in relation to infertility. Then if you culture any growth or bacteria, you are sure it is directly from the semen not that it may came from the vagina”. He further stated that masturbation is also used to collect sperm for some gynaecological procedures in  Intro-fertilisation, IVF, IUI, among others. On if there is any health implication, Adebayo said he could not say if there are health implications but that masturbation has helped people get better. However, another research also confirmed that masturbation is an important and wonderful way of knowing oneself physically and emotionally.

Benefits for women

Generally speaking, women often think their sexual desires are less important than their partners. Because of cultural taboos, many women feel that the urge or desire to masturbate is somehow wrong, or the idea of it makes them feel guilty or ashamed. Experts say there is enormous potential for healing, growth and well-being through exploring your sexuality, expressing it, and experiencing it with joy. According to them, women who masturbate experience a wide range of health benefits. They say female masturbation helps prevent cervical infections and relieves urinary tract infections. Studies are showing that female masturbation can provide protection against cervical infections because, when women masturbate, the orgasm “tents” opens the cervix. Many women with urinary tract infections (UTI) report the desire to masturbate when they feel a UTI coming on, and, for a good reason,  masturbating helps relieve pain, lubricates the vagina, and flushes old, “unfriendly” bacteria from the cervix. Again, studies have shown that masturbation is associated with improved cardiovascular health and lower risk of type-2 diabetes. In a number of studies, women who experienced more orgasms, and overall greater frequency and satisfaction with sex — with a partner or not — were shown to have greater resistance to coronary heart disease (CHD) and type-2 diabetes. Masturbation can help prevent insomnia naturally through hormonal and tension release. Many women masturbate to wind down at night or to help them fall asleep, but they might not know that there’s a hormonal reason why that works.

Masturbation makes the body tick and function – Sex therapist

A sex therapist, and Chief Executive Officer, Zee Virtual Media Ltd, Mr. Uche Edochie, the case against masturbation is one that has raged on for ages, especially within religious and political circles. Edochie, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, explained that it is no coincidence as well that these are the two circles where people are often pressured to deny the obvious for fear of a backlash from their constituents. According to him, everybody masturbates. “Humans need masturbation for the very reasons they need sex, food and sleep. Masturbation, like sex, is part of what makes our bodies tick and function. There is a raging and insatiable sexual hunger that humans and animals are born with and masturbation helps feed that hunger. Human beings are sexual beings and sexual beings need sex to function and thrive amongst other things. That is okay. Sex is part of our constitution and we shouldn’t be unnerved by it. I get that we are embarrassed by the crude and animalistic nature of sexual intercourse but that is not enough grounds to deny the obvious. The human need for food is one that goes without saying and the same goes for our need for medicine when we are ill, sleep when we are tired etc.” He queried why people should question the need for sex when all harbour sexual desire. “Such denial is childish, dangerous and makes no sense. Masturbation is simple the very act of pleasuring yourself to meet your sexual needs when the opportunity for actual sex with another human being is absent. Society largely underrates the importance of sex and it is alarming. “We take the life we have for granted when we question our need for sexual gratification. Our daughters, sisters, wives and mothers are able to go out and come home relatively unharmed, thanks to a masturbating populace. Rape, sexual molestation, child sexual abuse, incest and domestic violence are all consequences of sexual deprivation and if you thought the stats are bad now, imagine how horrible it would be if we never had the opportunity to relieve ourselves sexually. Edochie argued that if masturbation is taken for granted, sexual violence will become an epidemic in the society. “Sexual violence will be an epidemic of stratospheric proportions. We have all witnessed how the uncountable incidents of child sexual molestation has ravaged the Catholic Church and robed it of all credibility, empathy and common sense. “As a catholic, it has left me stunned beyond words. This is what happens when priests are denied the opportunity to have sexual relationships and marry. They turn on helpless children for sexual succour. Priests are people too and they need sex like everyone else.” The sex therapist posited that sex is important for mental health, emotional well-being and social security, adding that there is no need to demonize masturbation. “Celebrate it. Our world is safer because of it,” he added. Experts say Dopamine, the “feel-good” hormone, rises during the anticipation of a sexual climax. After the orgasm, the calming hormones oxytocin and endorphins are released, allowing you to feel a warm afterglow that helps you sleep. Orgasm increases pelvic floor strength. There are so many advantages to having a healthy pelvic floor. In the “plateau” stage of orgasm, the pelvic floor gets a real workout. The clitoris surges with increased blood pressure. Muscle tone, heart rate, and respiration all increase. The uterus “lifts” off the pelvic floor, increasing pelvic muscle tension and strengthening the entire region, as well as your sexual satisfaction.

Psychological and emotional benefits of female masturbation

It is said that fatigue is the main reason for women’s decrease in, or loss of, libido, and it’s a legitimate one. According to medical experts, tired body should focus on resting and taking care of itself. The second most common reason for women’s decreased interest in sex is dissatisfaction with their appearance. Masturbation also has the potential to heal the memory of past negative sexual experiences and replace them with positive ones. Masturbation can help you feel more confident and connected because it improves your mood. Masturbation helps relieve depressed feelings. As you become aroused, the hormone levels of mood-boosting dopamine and epinephrine soar in your body. Many studies show that women who report personal satisfaction with their sex lives live a better quality life overall.

For couples

Masturbation also relieves stress. According to a sex therapist, Lonnie Barbach, avoiding sex due to  stress can create body imbalances. Masturbation also strengthens your relationship with yourself. When you know and love yourself on deeply emotional and physical levels, you gain confidence and let yourself grow through self-awareness. Masturbation also strengthens sexual relationship with your partner because many couples have different sexual drives and needs; masturbation is one way to meet the personal needs not met by a partner. Still, it can be shared with a partner. Watching a partner masturbate can teach us what methods our partners use and enjoy. It can also open up communication between partners who might assume that the old routine is okay when it could use a refresher.

The other side of masturbation

However, certain masturbating habits can wreak havoc on sex life.   Studies have also identified negative effect of masturbation as its inability to help in terms of infertility. The frequent ejaculation of the fluid, semen  reduces the quality of the sperm as it gets . Experts say frequent masturbation
irritate the skin of the penis and constant masturbation with the penis pressed down against the sheets can injure the urethra such a way that urine leaves the penis, not in a stream, but in a hard-to-control spray.     This they say can cause severe urethral trauma.   Men who masturbate may often fail to satisfy their wives during sex. As you keep masturbating, your desire for your partner decreases and this is one of such situations that can spell doom for your relationship. Experts have warned that men who frequently stimulate themselves sexually in ways different from what their partner does can develop retarded ejaculation, a sexual dysfunction where you find it difficult to climax during sex with a partner.

Eight questions freshers ask in UNIBEN

Believe me, all old students were once new and asked a lot of funny questions on reaching campus. But, over time, the student acclimatizes and can't help but laugh at his earlier questions. Just enjoy the list.
1. WHERE IS AKIN DEKO AUDITORIUM?: This seems like a very normal question to ask but can be really funny since the fresher usually asks this question at the main gate without even having enough patience as to walk a little into the campus where he/she would locate it. Some will ask this question while standing next to the building or in front of 500LT.
2. WILL THEY CLEAR ME?
I am not the clearance officer and cannot tell you that. Come on! We asked this question especially for those who filled the correction forms. In fact, the only thing on the mind of an average fresher is to get cleared and this truly is the priority. The questions most popular under this category are 'I have 3 names on my WAEC Certificate and 2 names on the Kofa page, will they clear me?' ' The date of birth in my WAEC certificate is 199X and the one in Kofa is 199Y, will they clear me?'
3. WHEN IS MATRIC COMING UP?:
The average fresh student after being cleared is usually eager for the matriculation ceremony. He hopes and expects heaven and earth; fantasizing about how he will cruise on matric day. We all looked forward to the matriculation day per se but hey, don't be surprised if it gets postponed (laughs). That's like a culture here.
4. DO THEY RECORD ATTENDANCE?
I got drunk with laughter when a fellow fresher asked this question in my time. Not all will ask this question but believe me, I've heard it severally. Truly, lecturers do take attendance in subsequent levels and in practical sessions but in regular classes in 100 level? Almost ridiculous!
5. IS AKIN DEKO AUDITORIUM THE SAME AS THE MAIN AUDITORIUM?
Ah! I wouldn't blame the fresher on this one. The inscription usually says 'Akin Deko Main Auditorium'. Now a smart student would ask: If there's a main auditorium, where are the auxiliary ones? Again, with 'Akin Deko Auditorium' frequently interchange with 'Main Auditorium', it's easy to get confused.
6. WHAT IS EBELEBO?
I personally heard this term a lot and decided to find out what it meant. I was surprised to discover two meanings of the word. One is that it means 'almond' and the other meaning is what the new student will discover on his own. Ebelebo - the word is popular anyway.
7. IS IT TRUE THAT EKOSODIN IS A NO-GO AREA EVEN IN DAYTIME?
The new student probably hears horrible stories about Ekosodin before or immediately he resumes. He is filled with so much freight that he thinks Ekosodin is a place where people get assaulted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and at such too scared to cross the Ekosodin gates. In fact, the mention of that names chills his spines instantly. Oh! Oh dear! Only if you knew it's a normal village inhabited by thousands of students.
8. WHAT IS 'ELIGIBILITY'?
Should I tell you? Without it you cannot be a bonafide UniBen student. It's actually called 'eligibility slip'. However, student don't usually add the 'slip' at its end and this confuses new students.

A wonderful day for UNIBEN students on Ekehuan campus

The 5th of December 2016 is one day that won't be forgotten in a hurry, it is a day that the Marginalized students of the University of Benin Ekehuan Campus said enough is enough!
As early as 6am, I was still trying to enjoy the last minutes of my mosquito ridden sleep, when I heard raps on my door. It was marching students who were already heading towards the point of call, the venue of the earlier planned protest, which was decided upon earlier in the night. They were shouting "make una come out o, make una coma out o!" The shout grew into a hysterical pitch as they marched on towards the main gate of the school.
I yawned my last reluctantly getting of my bed, as my inquisitive side urged me to get up and go see what the ruckus was turning into. I hurriedly took care of some necessities after which I marched on to the battle ground. It was already way past 7am going towards 8am. The usual scenario at this point was always that of students and staff alike busy at their business of the day, the lecturers lecturing, and the students receiving lectures. But lo and behold the reverse was the case. I met all school gates under lock and key, front, back and side gates. Nothing was coming in and non was going out! The courageous protesting students took control of the school at the expense of the helpless security officers! They demanded one request, "An audience with the Vice Chancellor of the School" a seemingly outrageous demand!
They shouted and screamed on, we want VC, we want VC, we Want VC! All efforts to appease them by lower authorities proved abortive, the fire that was burning in them visible in their eyes and audible in their tongues was un-quell-able. The presence of the Public Relations officer of the University and the Chief Security Officer did little or nothing, the students were un-pacify able, they've had enough! Even the loose armed student's representatives who were apparently willing to reach a comprise were pushed aside, the demand remaining unchangeable, "WE WANT THE VC!
Hours went by, and the students protested on unflinchingly and peacefully without drama, except for a short one caused by the unwanted short appearance of the recently suspended UNIBEN Student Union Government President, Laureta Obakpolor. She was escorted out of the school amidst shouts of "shame on you" by the angry throng of protesters who saw her as an outsider who had failed in her bid to rep the school, Especially Ekehuan Campus.
Just when it seemed the cries of the students was going to be turned on deaf ears, out of nowhere the Vice Chancellor made an entrance, an unprecedented occurrence in the history of the school. Many of the protesters looked on disbelieving and appreciative of the reality that it was actually happening. In the company of an entourage that included a few of the top officials in the University and one armed escort, the VC addressed the agitated students who with the leadership of the student's representatives tabled their grievances and gave him a tour of almost the entire campus where nothing works. He was taken round an eyesore of a sport complex, the non-functional single ACCESS BANK ATM Machine, the dilapidated boys and girls hostel, and he was intimated on the epileptic state of water and power in the school, the understaffed departments and so on and so forth. The prof and his men promised and promised and promised, he even went as far as promising a fast track response of a 24 hours duration.
The students laid down their alms, the gates were thrown open! The Vice Chancellor and his entourage made an exit. The perpetually molested and abandoned Ekehuan Campus spoke at last! Things over here will never remain the same, even the wind blows differently, there is a calm, but it's not the calm that Ekehuan was once known for, it's not the passive unresponsive calm. It's a calm that promises a lot of noise if these promises are not met, the school authority may just be sitting on a keg of gun powder. This calm may just be the calm before the storm!

UNIBEN STUDENTS ON EKEHUAN CAMPUS PROTEST

The students of the University of Benin who stay on Ekehuan campus have decided to protest this morning as a result of lack of some necessary facilities on their campus.
According to a student who preferred anonymity, 'we do not like the way we are being treated on Ekehuan campus. She also stated that the campus lacked good ATM, electricity, good water, good health center and conducive class for learning.
The university's PRO, the Dean of students the police and some other men of high personalities came to calm the situation but were not allowed to enter the campus as the main gate was shut down by students.
However, the security men are doing their best possible to ensure that the protest doesn't lead to destruction and the students are also trying to prevent anything that will lead to such.

Fear grips Nigerians in MMM, others as ponzi website, Ultimate Cycler, crashes

One of the ponzi schemes in Nigeria, Ultimate Cycler has crashed, sending panic waves across many of its Nigerian members who have invested their money in it as well as those who have equally invested in others such as MMM.
The ponzi website, Ultimate Cycler went down early Thursday morning, specifically around 10:30am(Nigerian time), shutting out every member who owns an account with it.
When accessed, the site initially displayed an error line of code, before displaying ”Error 503” in bold letters, then it proceeded to display another message:  “ Be right back. We are currently updating the site to give you a more pleasurable experience and will be back online shortly. Our update estimation is to be complete over the next 6 – 12 hours. Thank you, Peter Wolfing.”
Ultimate Cycler is a new ponzi scheme that followed MMM. This new money doubling scheme claims a promise of better returns on invested money than MMM.
The hook for Ultimate Cycler is members get a return of N50,000 after paying N12,500 to a fellow member he or she registered under.
As at the time of filing this report, the ponzi website has still not come to life.
Dangers for members who have invested in it or others like MMM is that when such websites go down, chances are that it never comes up again and hence, “investors'” money goes with it.
So, will Ultimate Cycler ever come back to life? This is question on the minds of every member.

NANS to Buhari: Data price hike an attempt to pit you against Nigerians

Against the backdrop of the botched plans by telecommunications companies to review data tariff, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to reject unpopular policies that are likely to cast him as insensitive to the plight of less privileged citizens.
In a statement by its National President, Comrade Chinonso Obasi, NANS informed President Buhari that the plan to jack up the price of data is not only a black market attempt to tax all mobile phone users, but above all Nigerian students.

Obasi expressed regrets that Nigerian students, including those studying overseas have been subjected into harrowing experiences that threatens their academic pursuit, stressing that the recent move to descend heavily on data will definitely make research and communication very difficult for suffering Nigerian students. Lamenting the series of traumatic experiences students have been made to grapple with, the NANS President noted that the hike in dollar rate caused by volatility of international oil market, recent strike action by the Academic Staff of Union of Universities (ASUU) and the delay in mobilisation of youth corps members make the data hike too much a burden to bear. The NANS President observed that internet has become an indispensable companion of undergraduates to pursue extensive research in the competitive knowledge-based economy, adding that increasing the price of data would bind the hands of students and drive the back to the stone-age method of learning. Expressing dismay that the NCC would be crying more than bereaved by suggesting the punitive rate to favour its so-called small operators to acquire market share and profitability, NANS said the commission lost sight of the economy of large scale the operators enjoy by greater penetration in Nigeria’s growing mobile internet access. “Nigerian students wish to register their rejection of the plan by NCC to increase the price of internet data. We recall a previous attempt by the authorities to restrain access to the social media. But this latest plan to descend heavily on students through this backdoor taxation is an affront to scholarship and freedom of communication,” NANS stated. NANS therefore pleaded with President Buhari to ensure that the attempt to punish Nigerian students does not see the light of the day, pointing out that even though taxation was a genuine way for government to generate revenue, it should not be done in such a way to kill the future generation.

Trump win: Soyinka says he’s thrown away green card as promised

Soyinka, a scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs, had vowed to give up his permanent US residency over Trump’s promise to get tough on immigration.

“If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that,” he had said.

“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

After Trump was declared president-elect, the comment started gaining traction, with many, particularly on social media, asking the scholar to match his words with action.

But, speaking at a conference in South Africa, the internationally-acclaimed playwright and poet said he had thrown away the green card and returned to where he had always been.

“I have already done it; I have disengaged (from the United States). I have done what I said I would do,” he reportedly said.

“I had a horror of what is to come with Trump… I threw away the (green) card, and I have relocated, and I’m back to where I have always been.”

Court denies Nnamdi Kanu bail

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal‎ High Court,Abuja has turned down bail application for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and three other accused persons.

Ruling on the application for bail filed by Counsel to Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Thursday, she held that the offences the defendants — Kanu, Benjamin Nmadubugwu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe and David Nwawusi — were charged with were not entirely bailable.

She said the charge of treasonable felony, which hands on the necks of the defendants, attracts‎ a life sentence.

Nyako, therefore, denied them bail on the grounds that their case was sensitive to national security.

‎On the argument of Kanu’s counsel that President Muhammadu Buhari made a statement on national TV tacitly declaring the IPOB leader guilty of the offence, she said: “The president has freedom of speech; he can express his opinion on any matter.”

Nyako is third judge to handle Kanu’s trial after two other‎ judges withdrew from the case.

John Tsoho, the second judge to withdraw from the trial after Ahmed Mohammed, had denied Kanu bail, remanding him in Kuje prison where he has been for‎ months.

In October 2015, a magistrate court discharged and acquitted Kanu of all charges of terrorism, but the Department‎ of States Services (DSS), kept him in detention.

Also, in December 2015, Adeniyi Ademola, justice of the federal high court, granted Kanu unconditional bail, but the DSS refused to release him.

Why I May Not Complete My Tenure As President – Buhari Shocks Nigerians

Why I May Not Complete My Tenure As President – Buhari Shocks Nigerians
Tired, fed up and overwhelmed, over the looming social crisis rearing up its ugly head as a result of millions of People displaced by Boko Haram, President Muhammadu, on Tuesday, November 29, subtly raised doubts, over the ‘possibility of him completing his four-year term.’
Buhari made this shocking disclosure at a meeting he had with the world leader of the Tijjaniya Islamic Movement, Sheikh Sharif Ibn Mohammad, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
This is coming, few weeks after the President said publicly that he contemplated running away from office, shortly after he was inaugurated as Nigeria’s President on May 29, 2015.
Buhari had said the on-going economic crisis has made him feel as though he is suffering the consequences of someone else’s transgressions.
Political analysts have explained that Buhari’s latest statement might be connected to the stress he is passing through at the Presidential Villa.
According to a statement issued by the Presidents Spokesman, Garba Shehu, Buhari on Tuesday, lamented the destruction of public institutions in the North-East by Boko Haram terrorists.
“Government is faced with the problem of repairing schools, health centres and whole towns. We must repair their schools and recruit teachers otherwise they will become tomorrow’s Boko Haram,” Buhari warned.
“The President reiterated the importance of justice in the affairs of governance, emphasising that men and women in authority must show kindness and justice to all the people under them.
“In commending the religious group for the prayers they had rendered for three days in Yola, Adamawa State for the recovery of the economy and peace in the country, the President said that the problem Oil production was experiencing in the country and in the global market had forced the imperative of agriculture on Nigerians.
“We are learning the hard way. The mistake we made was to abandon agriculture. We came at a time of difficulty the country has never experienced since the Civil War,” he said.
Buhari also requested religious leaders to persuade Nigerians to embrace hard work, endurance and patience.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would not relent in the effort to achieve self-reliance and security for the nation.

NCC suspends data tariff hike

— 30th November 2016

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has suspended move to prompt big mobile operators to effect a new tariff regime for data services.
The new tariff regime is suppose to take off on December 1, 2016, but there had been a public outcry against it.
A statement, signed by Tony Ojobo, NCC director of public affairs said: “Following the concerns that visited the directive to introduce price floor for data segment of the telecommunications sector beginning from December 1, 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has suspended any further action in that direction.
“The decision to suspend this directive was taken after due consultation with industry stakeholders and the general complaints by Consumers across the country.
“The Commission has weighed all of this and consequently asked all operators to maintain the status quo until the conclusion of study to determine retail prices for broadband and data services in Nigeria.
“Recall that the Commission wrote to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on November 1, 2016 on the determination of an interim price floor for data services after the stakeholder’s consultative meeting of October 19, 2016.
“The decision to have a price floor was primarily to promote a level playing field for all operators in the industry, encourage small operators and new entrants.
“The price floor in 2014 was N3.11k/MB but was removed in 2015. The price floor that was supposed to flag off on December 1, 2016 was N0.90k/MB.
“In taking that decision, the smaller operators were exempted from the new price regime, by virtue of their small market share. The decision on the price floor was taken in order to protect the consumers who are at the receiving end and save the smaller operators from predatory services that are likely to suffocate them and push them into extinction.
“The price floor is not an increase in price but a regulatory safeguard put in place by the telecommunications regulator to check anti-competitive practices by dominant operators.
“This statement clarifies the insinuation in some quarters that the regulator has fixed prices for data services. This is not true because the NCC does not fix prices but provides regulatory guidelines to protect the consumers, deepen investments and safeguard the industry from imminent collapse.
